There’s more and more info coming out online about the importance, no, necessity to have an app website. That is, a website dedicated to your app.

This argument has been around for some time. Back in April 2011, DesignBoost published the article ‘Does Your App Really Need a Website?’ in which it’s stated…

Of course your app needs a website, right?

The problem is creating a website to advertise your app feels like doing laundry. Like, “Crap! I’m out of clothes!” scurry to pull something together.

But for those of you who aren’t convinced, take a look at the following data from Apptamin, and the infographic at the end of this post, detailing the online presence of the top 100 paid apps for iOS. A few key takeaways are;

  • – 98% of these top apps have a web presence other than their app store listing.
  • – 28% have a website set up which is dedicated specifically to that app (rather than being within their company website, for instance).
  • – Some of the most underutilized features on these sites are; video, press packs, and social proof.
  • – 74% of the studied apps have some form of video presence (either on their site, on YouTube etc).

This is something we passionately believe in at Apptous that an online presence for your app, as opposed to simply listing your app in the major app stores, is becoming more and more important as it becomes more of a challenge to stand out in this marketplace.

But as with all aspects of marketing, it’s not simply what you do that’s important, but how you do it.

Take the following example- a website created using the Apptous Platform, and consider the impact that having such a great presence could have on the success of your app.

App websites

In fact, don’t just take our word for it. Even Apple thought it was sexy enough to include in their own marketing campaign.
